Feelings of Mass Destruction

Have you ever had a secret crush? Not the kind you have as a pimply faced teen in love with the captain of the football team. Those kinds of crushes are considered cute, a requisite part of adolescence even.

I’m talking about the chills on the back of your neck when you talk to your best friend’s husband. The way your heart races when you’re near one of your co-workers, your professor or even “gasp” your priest! These feelings that we try to turn off, bury or hide but ultimately cannot deny have the potential to end marriages, hurt feelings and devastate friendships.

No, these crushes are anything but cute.

What do you do when your heart is trying to lead you in a direction you cannot follow? Or is it all in our heads? I think I’m in love, therefore I am. (Translation = If I wanted to get over it, I could.)

What do you think? Are we victims of our own emotions or perpetrators of our own pain? Or do you think everything happens for a reason and we're all just victims of fate?

I have no answers, only questions. The only thing I know for sure is that fate is a bitch sometimes.

And I really want to slap her.

Years ago my (then) b/f's twin brother (fraternal-they looked nothing alike)came to town to visit because he had a few weeks off before beginning a new job, which is why he came even though my b/f was studying for his contractor's license day and night. Not having much time to spend with his twin, he asked me to play tour guide.
Well, my b/f was a very handsome guy, but his twin brother was stunning! Dark hair, dark, liquid eyes, a body like a god, a beautiful face.
We'd all hang out in the evening, sitting on the sofa together watching movies in the dark, just that blue light flickering on the TV, and my skin would tingle all over knowing he was only a few inches away from me-I could hardly sit still! It was even harder spending time alone with him.
Nothing ever happened, but every second I was with him, my body was screaming for him to touch me. Pure torture.

Been there. What I need to do is remind myself what I have to lose. The bird in the hand. And there's no guarantee that the bird or two in the bushes are going to be as glorious or worthwhile as they look.

Yep. Tom Brady will just have to wait. Someday If I'm free and on the prowl again, I'll look him up.

Emma - at least you're keeping yourself out of trouble (right??)

Eden - I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I've actually been so stupid around a guy before that I couldn't even introduce myself. Imagine that, ME speechless. *so embarrassing*

Ash - Did you see the Superbowl? No one should look that good with black marks under their eyes!

What a great theme! I haven't had a crush since my hubby but can definitely relate since I oogled him for years. Sigh. :)

Hmm, those would be my secret high school "girl cruses." I define myself as "straight but not narrow" and I can still remember the power of those forbidden crushes so many years ago.

Ugh--and if I could even type "crushes" correctly this morning, I'd be doing well! Not sure what in the world a "crus" would be, rofl. And hello Eden Bradley *waving* Guess we'll have to use last initials when we respond to comments...

I don't know about crushes, but I've had lusty feelings toward some yummy looking men at the gym. No, secret crushes on any of the DH's friends, I guess I've just been around them too long. :D

Hi Minx, I'd say fate's not a bitch, but hell on earth. That's my experience. Crushes, I've had a few explosively intense ones, but rarely did anything because I could see the end result. But what got me bad, was the 'falling in love' thing. Used me up, and tossed away the towel. Romance is my soul, so that's what I live when I write. Now if I could just get the world to go along..sigh...

Oddly enough, I haven't had any crushes since high school. The last guy I crushed on was not your typical hottie, but he was really intelligent and driven and I find that sexy in a man. I won't say his name but Minx knows(Remember, Remember the 5th of November, anyone?)

Michelle - you always fall for the anti-hero :) Just in case anyone hasn't seen the movie here's a snippet of one of my fave parts (tee hee)

"VoilĂ ! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished...(yadda yadda, a whole bunch more V words) Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V. "
